The City of Wamego is a member Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA). Being a member of KMEA allows for purchase of wholesale power through many agencies, which offers a diverse portfolio of power options. This power is delivered to the City via an interconnection with the transmission grid. The City also has its own Power Plant, which provides local base load capacity to meet current peak loads throughout the City. The Plant generates electricity when there is a transmission disruption and whenever it can provide power more economically. The Electric Production Department operates and maintains multiple generating units.
