Our Mission

We will work in partnership with the community to provide prompt, professional police service with an emphasis on enhancing quality of life, while maintaining respect for individual rights, human dignity, and building confidence and respect between the Citizens of Wamego and their police department.

The department has many different roles in the community. Many of those roles go without notice but without the dedication of the officers and the support of the community this could not happen. The Wamego Police Department is active with the citizens and businesses, whether it is a child at the Tulip Festival greeting them and saying hello, the high school student job shadowing, or reaching out to grandparents and other seniors learning about safety for the elderly. The department is an active participant with Safe Kids and has a Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician in our department. We also have a School Resource Officer program. The “SRO” gets to gain many new friendships in our schools that really can make a difference. Not only are we seen at the school by the students but at the extra activities parents and the community have a chance to get to know us. All these things allow the relationship between Wamego and their police to become stronger and built on familiarity and trust.

All officers are K.L.E.T.C. certified.

Frequently Asked Question

How can I get a protection order from stalking or abuse?

These can now be done online at www.kspop.org

You can also still go to a District Court and go before a judge to get this done.  We do not do them in Municipal Court.

What number do I call to get the police department if I don’t want to call 911?

785-456-9553

Why do dispatch calls go through City Hall?

Non-emergent calls are routed through the City Office during the day but go directly to dispatch in the evenings. Having a dispatch center at the police department was a duplication of services.
