Monday, March 25, 2019

The Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for the Wamego area are being updated to provide more accurate information.  The Kansas Dept. of Agriculture- Division of Water Resources (DWR), in collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has interfaced with a working group composed of local citizens and community officials to review the map and provide comments to DWR.

The draft map is now available for public review and comment.  You can review and submit comments by visiting the web review map at http://gis2.kda.ks.gov/gis/middle_ks/.  Also, DWR has scheduled a “Pottawatomie County Floodplain Open House” on Tuesday, April 9th, 2019 in the City Commission Room at  the St. Marys City Hall, located at 200 South 7th St.   This event will be held from 2 PM until 7 PM.  At the Open House, engineers from Wood Environment & Infrastructures, and staff from DWR will be available to answer questions.  Also, insurance experts from DWR and from FEMA will be on hand.  Laptop stations will be set up and officials can meet with owners and residents individually about concerns affecting their property.  Finally, local community officials will be on hand to assist with questions and concerns from citizens.
