City Commission Minutes 06/19/2018

The Governing Body of the City of Wamego, Kansas, met in Regular Session on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. in the City Commission Chambers at 430 Lincoln Avenue, Wamego, Kansas. Those present were: Mayor Pro-Tem Thomas Beem, Commissioners: William Ditto, Richard Weixelman and Clifford Baughman. Mayor Robert Morse Jr. was absent.

 

Also present were:  City Treasurer, Stacie Eichem, City Clerk, Shanda Jahnke and Assistant City Attorney, Jacob Pugh.  

 

The City Clerk presented the minutes of the regular meeting of the Governing Body held on June 5, 2018.  After a careful reading and discussion thereof, it was moved by Commissioner Baughman and seconded by Commissioner Ditto to approve the minutes as presented.  Motion carried.  Aye: 4, Nay: 0. 

 

The City Clerk then submitted to the Governing Body for their consideration and approval Appropriation Ordinance No. 1551.  After a careful review and discussion thereof, Commissioner Ditto moved, seconded by Commissioner Baughman, to approve and adopt Appropriation Ordinance Number 1551.  Motion carried.   Aye: 4, Nay:  0.

 

Public Comments and Communications:

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Beem called for a regular work session on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 4:30 P.M.

 

KDOT Grant Update:

 

The City Treasurer and the Assistant City Attorney reported the KDOT application had been reviewed and approved by the attorney. Commissioner Ditto moved to authorize the City Manager and City Clerk to execute the KDOT Grant Agreement for the Industrial/Commerce Route contingent upon the approval of the County Commission participation previously discussed at the April 2nd joint work session prior to the grant application submission. Commissioner Baughman seconded the motion. Motion carried.   Aye: 4, Nay:  0.

 

Equipment Review – Street Department:

 

Stacie Eichem reported a proposal had been received from Reed Company to trade the 1995 Ford dump truck for a 2011 Peterbilt with a snowplow. $79,000 had been budgeted and the total purchase would be $76,875 after a $9,000 credit for the 1995 Ford. Commissioner Baughman moved to approve the trade and purchase for the 2011 Peterbilt from Reed Company. Commissioner Weixelman seconded the motion. Motion carried.   Aye: 4, Nay:  0.

 

The City Treasurer informed the Governing Body that Jol Klein had requested the use of City Park   again this year for the Annual Family Fun Night, he has held the past several years.  This year the event is scheduled for June 20th.

 

Ordinance No. 1695:

 

Ordinance No. 1695 was read and presented as follows:

 

AN ORDINANCE OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF WAMEGO, KANSAS, REZONING A 4.35 ACRE TRACT OF LAND WITHIN THE CITY OF WAMEGO EXTRATERRITORIAL ZONING JURISDICTION, SITUATED ALONG THE SOUTH SIDE OF VALLEY ROAD, BETWEEN MILLER’S FIRST ADDITION TO THE CITY OF WAMEGO (LOCATED AT 105 EAST VALLEY ROAD) AND AN ACCESS ROAD TO THE WAMEGO WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT (LOCATED AT 18200 VALLEY ROAD), FROM A-L:  AGRICULTURAL DISTRICT, TO I-1: LIGHT INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.

 

Commissioner Baughman moved, seconded by Commissioner Weixelman, to approve Ordinance No. 1695. Motion carried.  Aye: 4, Nay: 0.

 

City Manager and Other Reports:

 

Library minutes, finances and statistics were included in the meeting packet.

 

It was reported the previously approved Irish band would not be performing at the Recreation Complex over Labor Day weekend due to a conflict with the promoter.
