WAMEGO MUSEUM
(project of the Wamego Historical Society)

The museum complex in the city park at 4th and Ash, is a product of the
Wamego Historical Society organized in 1973. The complex consists of a museum, a one room school
house, a rock jail and a log cabin, all near the Old Dutchmill.
The museum is housed in an Union Pacific Railroad mechanics rock building, built in 1862,
to which additional space was added. An expansion was completed in early 1997, a replica
of the 1860 City Hall.
The donated artifacts depict the early history of Wamego and we are the keepers of the
heritage.

The Wamego Historical Society also has the birth home of Walter P. Chrysler, at Valley and
Pine, and the Cottonwood School on Highway 99. Reservations may be made to visit the Beecher Bible and Rifle Church.
The museum hours are 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., M-S, Sunday 1:00 to 4:00p.m. April 1st to
October 31st. Reservations for tour groups are welcome. Vistors are requested to
give a donation of $1.00 each.
