Adjoining the park, the museum and historical complex forge the link with Wamego's colorful past. To the northeast of town, the Louis Vieux Elm, proclaimed in 1978 as the largest American Elm in the United States, is sentinal to the Vermillion River Where Louis Vieux, a Potawatomie Indian, once operated the first ferry along the Oregon Trail.
