Lew Schumacher Memorial Youth Fishing Clinic

Bring back one of the greatest pastimes we know and enjoy by participating in the Lew Schumacher Fishing Clinic on April 21, 2012.  We’ll start off the clinic with an educational clinic on different types of reels, how to cast, and what kind of bait to use for different fishing.  Once the educational clinic is over the youth will have the opportunity to incorporate what they learned by fishing in Wamego’s City Park Pond.  This event will start at 10 a.m. and is free to any 6-18 year old.  Lewis "Lew" Schumacher (1921-2009) was born and grew up in the Wamego area. He spent eight years in the U.S. Navy and, following his discharge, he and his wife, Pat, returned to Wamego, where he worked in the Wamego Post Office until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and loved nothing more than teaching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren how to fish.

Clinic Information

There is no fee to this fishing clinic, but please fill out a registration form at Wamego City Office so we have an idea on how many kids to expect.  Kids who participated in the clinic last year will not get a new fishing reel, but are invited to join in the FUN!!!
