Fire Department

Fire protection in Wamego is provided by a volunteer force of around 24 persons, of which approximately 50% can be expected to respond to any particular emergency call.  The department is quartered in a 7,000 square foot building, located at 514 Plum St.  Equipment includes a 2000 Pierce fire truck with 1,250 gpm pump, a 1992 Pierce Telesquirt ladder fire truck and a 1990 Chevy tank truck with 1,500 gallon tank, along with a 1999 Chevy Suburban to transport additional personnel.  The Plum Street facility also houses one Pottawatomie County rescue vehicle. 

The Fire Department provides excellent and timely response for the Wamego community, and has helped earn the City the admirable ISO rating of 4.  Additional response is available by mutual aid agreement with every public fire department in Pottawatomie County, as well as Wabaunsee Township in Wabaunsee County.  The Department is dispatched via the enhanced 911 system, from the Wamego Law Enforcement Center at 408 Elm Street.
