I really like the new format of Wamego's Home Page as well as the music. I think it is great that Wamego has a home page so that we can "check up" on our home town. Enjoyed reading the message from Alice Daylor and Ross Miracle. I just came through Wamego last week visiting friends and relation. Talked to Bill Kirkpatrick and Francis Sable.

Graduated Wamego High 1971. Only lived there about a year; my Dad (Earnest Burton, Jr.) was a Federal Civil Service employee assigned to Ft. Riley. We lived in a huge two-story house, next to the Litchenhann's, at 728 Lincoln, a few blocks down from Wamego High. I left after graduation, serving 21 years in the U.S. Navy. Didn't see enough of Wamego to appreciate it's "small towm" attributes. Thinking of moving back to the area JUST to see more of the awsome spring thunderstorms...LOVED em! By the way, nice web page!

I was sent your website by my daughter who lives here in OKC but loves Wamego too. The foggy picture of the lake in the city park is wonderful, that's where I learned to swim as a youngster. I miss the old arched bridge and, of course, my father's former car dealership but proud of the restoration of the Columbian Bldg. and other historic sites around Pott. Co. The foresight of Wamego leaders is awesome. Keep up the vision. Alice

What a shame.. seeing such crap on a guestbook. and to think I looked this website up to try to find some old friends from Class of '90.
Granted I didn't "love" wamego, as a matter of fact I HATED being ther and was glad to leave but it doesn't change the fact that I really DID have
some fun while I was there. So here's to the CO 90.. Back in Black Ya'll!
try to remember the few good times we had , the first walkout to get AC in Wamego HS,
A championship Wreastling team, not to mention a pretty decent casino graduation party (even if it was non-alcoholic)
... On the off chance that you "might" remember my name... please e-mail.

I applaud your WebMaster for providing your citiziens free listings to encourage your bussinesses, and public organizations to work together. You have a very nice page provided to your community. My hats off to your provider. It is nice to know honest people are working to improve the community and they are not out for a fast buck from hard working individuals and companies. Clay Center could learn much from your community and that of Manhattan. Clay Center has a total of three web pages each one trying to compete and provide what you currently have available. Ours are unorganized not listed correctly and really a total mess. You should all be very proud of your Web page and the people who helped in creating it. Sincerely Stan at

I just found your website again. Everything- the pictues etc. brought back many fond memories. I really miss the rural midwest atmosphere. I hated seeing all the negative writings about Wamego. It was the best place to raise my two children. They did not become snobs.
I really miss the sports- going to and working at the sporting events. Keep up the good work, coaches. You were great role models for my children and I will never forget you. You know who you are.
I would love to come back and visit. I still have many wonderful friends there.

Just reading the comments about Wamego. I am so glad that we moved out of that town. Weve been in Missouri for 2 months now. The people here are great. Dont look down on folks like they do in Wamego. Everyone is someone around here. It doesnt matter if you have money or not you are the same as anyone else. We have Dr.'s here in town that will speak to you if you meet them on the street. They will come to your home at any hour of the night if there is a problem and not charge a cent. The school district is wonderful as are the schools. If anyone wants to move away from the snobby hatful town of Wamego, move to the Ozarks. Its great..
Glad to be gone <*******>

I lived in Wamego for nearly 25 years, raised my children there & worked locally. The only thing that has not grown, changed or developed in town is the mind of SOME of it good upstanding citizens. I watched the park go from rags to riches...good job park dept. it's the best looking thing in town. The ugly part of the town is the way "outsiders" are greeted & accepted, I'm sorry but they aren't! I know some wonderful people in town, and will continue to visit, but I am also realistic & know to watch my back when I come into town w/ an out of state license plate. I live in a town 5 times the size of Wamego now, & yes there are people w/ statis and money on this town, but at least they are compared to something of size...some of Wamego people are just big fish in a little town, and heaven forbide growing they would lose their place in the community. I know for a fact that some of Wamego's "good" people have skeletons in their closet & some of them rattle pretty loud. A town is only as good as the people who live there...now think about the way you treat the ones you think are not good enough for you, your sons, your daughters...and your social clubs, even the churches in town can be one of the biggest ones w/ tunnel vision (or should I say the people in the church buildings) I am definately not sorry I left Wamego, & my children although grown now consider Wamego their home...they all say the smartest thing they did was LEAVE!

The guestbook has changed since I last left a message. I lived here in town with the rest of my family since the summer of 86. During the 13 years I've lived here, I've had the chance to meet some amazing people. Wamego has also given me many opportunities that has made me a better person. I would definitely raise a family in Wamego (that won't be for a very long time though, I'm only 19). People can talk bad about this town and particular things like the police. I have nothing bad to say about them because I have never gotten involved with the law. I'm going to school out in Garden City so I won't make it back much but I always love to come back home and Wamego will always be home to me. It's not just the town but the people that make it what it is. I just want to say thanks to a few people: mom, dad, Ryan, and Derek, all of my friends (you know who you are), the Meinhardt family, the Pugh's, Charlie and Jan White, everyone at Wamego Telephone Co., everyone at Lichtenhan's True Value, (two of the best summer jobs ever) Buck Barger, Al the Barber (the best barber in town), my teachers throughout my school years, and many, many other people, I'm sorry if I left you out. Thank you all so much. Hope to see you all soon.

I have never been to your little town. However, i do have close friends that live there. I have heard from several different ones that Wamego is very famous to judge people by their looks. i live in an area that has 6 small towns, and the average population for all 6 towns is around 25,000. No one here judges a person on what they look like...they judge on what is inside the heart and soul. It is sad to see a community such as yours, will not develop in areas that pertain to
people..here, no one cares if you are purple, yellow, orange, green, or black...we dont care if you have little money or lots of money...you will be treated the same! we still have doctors that make house calls...they carry their full loads of patient care at their offices and their routine schedules of rounds at the hospital, all of their home phone numbers are listed in the phone book, and it doesnt matter what time of day or night you call, they will be there. I am so happy that my closest friends are moving away from
wamego...and moving here, where judgement is only used in a courtroom and in front of a judge! Life is good here...for anyone!! it is your loss, in a way that you will never grow together as a town should! So Wamego, change your attitude of judging people for what they look like...you will see that you will grow faster, and become a very close knit community!

Oh Wamego, What a wonderful town. If you are a snobby, hateful person. If you dont walk funny if your arnt overweight if you are "perfect" then Wamego is just the town for you. Life will be great for you in the town if you dont question the school board, the schools authority over YOUR children and if you just keep your mouth shut and let most of those in authority run all over you. Dont get me wrong, there are a FEW great people in this snobby town.
And those people have our thanks. To Richard T, Larry, jeannie,Terry and Lecia. Thanks for makeing our stay as good as it could be in this hateful town. We are so gratful to be leaving this "if your not perfect" town. Hope we never have to move back to this area.

Wamego...Glad I'm not there. I checked out the web page. Looks like nothing has changed in the 10 or so years that I've been gone. Well maybe a few more churches have sprung up. I have never lived in a place where the people are so nosy, judgemental and
self-rightous. Looking at the pictures brings back memories. The biggest one being how terribly bad I wanted to leave and never return to that place. I can't think of one single person that I would like to see from Wamego. Everyone that I knew there was a loser. Only losers stay in a tiny town where there is nothing to do, nothing to see, and nowhere to go. Everyone that stays in Wamego or towns like Wamego are destined to go nowhere in life.

It was good to see Wamego has a Home Page. I enjoyed reading the messages from others. I have been away from Wamego for over 40 years so I do not know many living there any more. I still subscribe to the Wamego Times but don't know why--for that same reason. I saw the message from Ross Miracle along with his e-mail address. I sent one to him but have not heard from him yet. Our class of 1948 had our 50th reunion last year and had a great time. The "committee" there in Wamego did an outstanding job. Good luck to your Home Page, Wamego. It looks great. Don Cox

My wife Sharn Jean Mercer was driveing by the golf course out there in Wamjego when her car broke down. It turned out to be flat
tir. Anyway she was gettin' down thare to change that tir when she looked up and saw one a them golfers
takin' a wizz behind the bushes. Don't yall have a bathroom out thare. She was about ready to jump that fence and strangle that old boy. I already talked to one guy over thare and he just told me about the lady that said her neighboor was exposing himself and the policemen came over and said he couldn't see anything and the lady said you could if you stood on the chair. I said well she got a crick in her neck. Well, by God. I'll tell you what I'm gonna come down there with another 55 gallon drum a whupp

This is Roy D Mercer I gotta bone to pick with you. My boy Ramond was down there in Wamjego couple a monts ago. He went into that Dicks store. Some lady in thare told him he was
scrony. So he came home and chraged up about 200 dollars worth a dumbell and protein powder. And that ain't the worst of it. He was in thare
tryin' to get the dumbells together. He dropped a weight right on top of his pet hampster and it squirshed him. His name was
Libarachi. So I need about 300 hundred dollars and a new hamster or I'm gonna have to come down thare and whoop
somebody. You think it's funny. You'll a look when I punch ya. Your eye ill swell up so much you'll look like Popeye. My boy has won the 4H pet talent show for the past 2 years
runnin'. Mama made him a little blue sequin jacket. Then they sat him a little piano a let him pound on it with his nose. It ain't funny. I want you to call up his 4H teacher and tell him why he isn't going to be in the talent contest. Cause this year the blue ribbons gonna go to Jimmy Charlins ping pong

My name is Roy D. Mercer. I was in Wamjego and let my rooster roam on some property. He was later killt by one a them oil wells. The rooster was kinda a source a income for us. He was a tic tac toe
playin' rooster. The kids called him Bobby Fisher since he was such a good tic tac toe player. I just wanted somebody to pay me back for that darn thin. I'm headed down to Wamjego right now to get that 400 hundred dollars or I'm gonna whoop somebodys ass. Well I'm
comin' down thare right now cause I'm gonna stop at that big MACdonalds the biggest MACdonalds on the turnpike. Were on a fixed income over here and we need
somein' to bring to da far. I hear that there's some lady in town thats got her a gerbal that plays chuts and ladders. Could we make a trade on
thatin'. You ever see a gerbal play chuts and ladders. Well until Bobby Fisher gets replaced I'm gonna plan on
bringin' a 55 gallon drum of whoop ass down thare.

YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO SAY WHAT YOU FEEL ONLY WHAT SOME PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR IS ACCEPTABLE
AND I BET THIS DOESNT STAY ON
Why not? You
didn't defame anyone's character or use ugly language. If you believe
someone is doing wrong, defaming them without leaving a name is not the way to
do it. Go to the proper authority, or get other people that feel the
person has done wrong. And bring it to the attention of your parents, or
other concerned citizens that can help you bring the appropriate attention and
action against the wrong doer. Just carping anonymously with out taking or
instigating the appropriate and legal corrective action, is counter productive and irresponsible.
Many people are concerned about persons misusing their authority or not living
up to their responsibilities, but they need specific information to be able to
take corrective action.

My family and I have lived in Wamego for the past 3 years, and we have many fond
memories. Generally, it is a nice place to live and raise a family, though it's a little
isolated from many of the conveniences of the (nearly) 21st century. We'll miss it here.
However, the Friendly Cooker restaurant should change its name to the Unfriendly Cooker.

I think that anyone who edits a guestbook is destroying free speech.
Anyones opinion about how a small gossipy town, such as wamego, sucks
should be able to be expressed. The illuminati editors who snip and cut
things they don't like to hear from these pages only silence them here.
Free speech lives on whether the powers that be or anyone else likes it.
So just keep snipping because you can't stop our fervor.

I have been reading the guestbook and see that everyone says that wamego is a peaceful
town. little do they know it is not. On 2-14-99 my 12,8 and 5 year old were attacked in
the park by a group of girls my oldest fought back. they pushed my 8 year old in the mud
as well as my oldest ones friend and they chased my 5 year old. they took my oldest ones
shoes and threw them in a trashcan. when my daughter went to school(wamego middle school)
the group grew bigger and my daughter was attacked everyday. and all because she defended
herself sunday. two eight grade boys trapped my daughter in the halls and would not let
her bye. when my daughter did get away she ran to the princeple for help he just walked
away. I pressed charges on the group from the park and for the things that happended at
school. the police were suppose to call the group of kids along with their parents into to
the police station on 2-18-99 but they did not i was told by the officer that was suppose
to call them all in that he got to busy. four of the girls from this group of now 10-15
people were put in iss on 2-18-99 but is that really going to do anygood? when they get
out this will just contunie. and that is bcause the school is doing nothing to really
solve it. and the police dont take it seriously enough.Well i wont go away. this needs to
be made public and i will make sure it is. this group is a gang and they are going after
one person. Shame on the parents for not knowing what cruel and violent children they
have. not to mention demented to go after a 5 year old. I have contacted a lawyer and he
said the schools are responsible for our childrens emtional as well as there physical well
being while in school well wamego middle school seems to not see it that way. So my public
warning to the parents of these kids. is get control of your children now. because if
there is one more gang up on my daughter then i will make sure they are prosecuted to the
fullest and that goes for the school as well.

Beloit(I didn't hold it against her) and she is going to school to become an RN She works
at a nursing home and we are getting along quite nicely.

Hey everyone! How's it going? I wish that the high school could have it's own web page,
with stuff about the students. Oh well. A neat website is come.to/whsbasketball
Kalan Powers and Cory McCart made it. Well, I better go!

This is a town that I have lived in for my whole life. It's a peaceful little town with
not much to do. It's a place that I would like to live if I was old and stuff. Later.

Was on the net browsing and found Wamego's web site and how wonderful it looks, just
remembering the fun times I had there and just realized how much I missed the town and all
my friends there.
