Wamego Public Library
The Wamego Public Library is located at 431 Lincoln Ave., across the street from the City Office. This building was formerly the Kaw Valley Bank and was donated by the Bank to the City in 1999 and thereafter was extensively remodeled for use as a Library.
The Library is a vital cultural feature of the local community, making scholarship and ideas available to all residents of the Wamego area. Currently, the Library has about 28,000 items available to borrowers or for reference, including books, periodicals, audio and visual materials. Annual circulation is around 60,000. In addition, as a member of the North Central Kansas Library System, Library patrons have access to items from any of the member libraries in the region. Eight computers are also available for public internet access.
A large part of the Library’s services are oriented toward children, and include an after school story time and summer reading program. The children’s areas are located downstairs, where a children’s librarian is on duty.
The main library is on the first floor and includes the general and reference collections, teen collection, computer room and separate reading room. A reference librarian is available to assist patrons.
The Wamego Public Library is governed by the Library Board, appointed by the Wamego Governing Body. The Board utilizes property tax revenues to support Library facilities, staff and services. Day to day operations are managed by the Library Director.
Library hours are: 10:00 – 7:00 Monday thru Thursday; 10:00 – 5:00 Friday, 9:00 – 1:00 Sat.; Closed Sunday.
